Anyone who spends time away from quick access to America’s road network should have basic field survival skills. This type of program used to be the domain of back-country travelers, hunters and soldiers; not so anymore. With more and more Police agencies putting personnel into the woods the dangers of injury, isolation, severe weather, getting lost and hurt are climbing. We teach a generalized skill set consisting of:
- back-country movement and navigation
- improvised shelters
- fire starting
- improvised first aid
- finding food and water
- knife skills
- emergency signaling
- psychology of survival
Students will spend time using and practicing with many survival tools, creating fires, shelters, etc. The locations we are training for primarily are continental US woodlands, not to include desert environments. This is a huge potential skill set so we have narrowed down the core essential techniques for inclusion in this curriculum. If you want to learn the names of every tree in America buy a book -- if you want coaching and practice in the skills that can save your life when you break an ankle on that hunt after getting lost in the snowstorm then we have the program for you.
